Maroona to Pyrenees Loop Ararat Points 27 and Half Set Points
Wednesday 02/10/2024 - Commencing 1630hrs --------------------------------------------------
ARARAT POINTS 27 Commencing 1630hrs on Wednesday 02 October 2024, Points 27 at Ararat will be reinstated and operated by the Ararat Yard Signaller as detailed in the current Ararat Operating protocols.
HALF SET POINTS A ‘Half Set’ of points are located in the Ararat Yard immediately on the yard side of derail 27u.
The points are equipped with a dual control point machine, the Selector Lever is set in the ‘Hand Operating Position’ and the Hand Throw Lever is set in the ‘Reverse’ position.
The blade of the points is in the closed (reverse) position.
The following point security is provided: - Two point clips securing the blade closed and padlocked with independent padlocks; - A fishplate spiked to the sleeper against the blade, and - Independent padlocks on the Point Machine Selector Lever and the Hand Throw Lever.
In addition, the points are provided with detection such that should the ‘Hand Throw’ lever on the Dual Control Point Machine be operated from the reverse position, the track circuit (30T) on the main line adjacent points 27d will show Occupied and the signalling between Pyrenees Loop and Maroona, including the points and signalling at Ararat, will not be operational.
INDEPENDENT PADLOCKS The key for the Independent Padlocks on the point clips and Dual Control Points Machine securing the Half Set points are held be the V/Line Ararat Junction Signalling Project Operations and Safeworking Representative (Paul Jerman).
T30 TRACK CIRCUIT FAILURE In the event that Ararat 30T track circuit (adjacent points 27) show occupied, the ARTC Network Controller must arrange for a SMT to attend and confirm that the Half Set points are correctly set and secure.
During the period of the failure the release on points 27 will not be available and main line rail movements will require to operate in accordance with the relevant CTC rules and Ararat Procedures associated with failure of signalling.
UNLOCKING THE HALF SET POINTS Should there be requirement to unlock the independent padlocks, the V/Line Ararat Junction Signalling Project Operations and Safeworking Representative (Paul Jerman) must be contacted and requested to attend.
Prior to unlocking any padlocks securing the point clips or point machine, the permission of the ARTC Network Controller must be obtained.
When requested, the ARTC Network Controller must ensure that there are no rail movements between Maroona and Pyrenees Loop and that blocking commands are applied on the departure signals at Maroona and Pyrenees Loop.
Provided it has been confirmed that the points have been restored to their correct position and the independent padlocks have been applied, and Ararat T30 track circuit is no longer showing occupied, the blocking commands on the departure signals may be removed and normal train running may occur.
