Updated Port of Melbourne Operating Procedures
Commencing 0700hrs Sunday 06 April 2025 --------------------------------------------------
Commencing 0700hrs Sunday 06 April 2025, a new set of operating procedures will come into effect for the Port of Melbourne precinct referred to as ‘Operating Procedures for the Port of Melbourne Precinct’.
The procedures are broken down into 13 sections: # SECTION 1: Overview and Responsibilities # SECTION 2: Controlled Points and Signals at PoM # SECTION 3: Victoria Dock - Qube # SECTION 4: Appleton Dock - Driver in Charge # SECTION 5: Appleton Dock - LDC Grain # SECTION 6: Appleton Dock - Common User Sidings # SECTION 7: Appleton Dock - ACFS # SECTION 8: Appleton Dock - PoM Wharf # SECTION 9: Swanson Dock - Local Controlled Points # SECTION 10: Swanson Dock - Driver in Charge # SECTION 11: East Swanson Dock - Patrick # SECTION 12: Swanson Dock - Footscray Rd Sidings # SECTION 13: West Swanson Dock - DP World
The new procedures will be introduced as part of the new signalling commissioning commencing on Saturday 05 April 2025 which will be detailed in a separate Train Notice.
Key changes are: # Broken into individual sections; # Revised Signalling Operations; # Updated signage (Stop Boards); # Updated stabling protocols for the Common User sidings; # Driver in Charge operations: # Swanson Dock Link Line operation # Shunt Mode on dwarf signals APD4 and APD6, and # Operation or Locally Controlled Motorised Points at Swanson Dock.
A key reiteration in the operating protocols is that the Port of Melbourne Sidings is a Network Controller - Driver operation and Appleton Dock Common User Sidings No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 Tracks, the Wharf Sidings and the Footscray Rd Common User Sidings No. 1 and No. 2 Tracks are managed by the ARTC Melbourne Metro Network Controller.
Copies of the ‘Operating Procedures for the Port of Melbourne Precinct’ have been sent to affected rail operator’ representatives.
