To allow construction of the new ARTC viaduct, the current ARTC standard gauge track will be temporarily moved onto a newly built track located where the old MTM West Track was situated. At the same time, the MTM West Track will be moved onto the newly built MTM viaducts during a planned SPA MTM Absolute Occupation.
A certificate of signalling will be issued prior to 16:00 Monday 20th April 2026 for the following changes to the standard gauge between Newport and Laverton, the below changes will remain in effect until 18:00 Monday 31st August 2026.
- MTM East and West Lines elevated on viaduct above Maddox Rd
- ARTC Track slewed from 11.855km to 12.938km on to decommissioned MTM West track
- MTM West track gauge converted to ARTC Standard Gauge Track
- Speed changed for up direction trains from 14.320km to 60km/h - resuming to line speed of 40km/h at 11.220km
- Temporary speed restriction of 60km/h will be installed at 14.320km for up direction train movements
- Predictor Board installed for Maddox Rd Level Crossing for up direction trains at 12.992km.
- Whistle board installed for Maddox Rd Level Crossing for up direction trains at 12.703km.
- Temporary speed restriction of 40km/h will be installed at 11.220km for down direction train movement until 14.320km, at which point trains can return to permanent line speed of 100km/h.
- Permanent speed board of 80km/h will be covered up at 11.220km
- Predictor Board installed for Maddox Rd Level Crossing for down direction trains at 11.807km.
- Whistle board installed for Maddox Rd Level Crossing for down direction trains at 11.868km.
- Champion Rd Fully Closed to the public with pedestrian fly over commissioned.
- Conditions for Champion Rd Level Crossing in 10/30 Signal Removed.
- 10/26P Signal Removed.
- 10/26 Signal re-positioned on new track alignment (Wrong Sided Signal) at 12.503km.
- New automatic pedestrian crossing commissioned at Maddox Rd Level Crossing.
- New Booms and Flashing Light masts commissioned on west side of Maddox Rd Level Crossing.
During the August ARTC Commissioning Occupation from 01:00 Saturday 29th August until 18:00 Monday 31st August the Alignment will be shifted onto the newly constructed ARTC Viaduct.
